Kisaran, 30 Desember 2024 – Universitas Royal kembali membuktikan komitmennya dalam mendukung pengembangan pendidikan berbasis teknologi dengan menyelenggarakan seminar inspiratif bertajuk “Inovasi dan Implementasi AI dan IoT dalam Transformasi Smart City.” Seminar ini menghadirkan Narasumber, Prof. Ir. Zainal Arifin Hasibuan, M.LISm, Ph.D.
The event, held at the Royal University Hall, was attended by students from the Faculty of Computer Science, especially the Information Systems, Computer Systems, and Software Engineering Study Programs, from semesters 1, 3, 5, to 7.
This activity aims to provide students with in-depth insight into the crucial role of AI and IoT technology in building a smart, efficient, and sustainable smart city ecosystem.
The event began with a warm welcome from the Chancellor of Royal University, Mrs. Wan Mariatul Kifti, S.E., M.M. In her speech, she emphasized that this seminar is part of Royal University's efforts to support technological developments that are in line with the institution's grand vision. "Royal University is committed to being a pioneer in producing a generation that is globally competitive, understands cutting-edge technology, and is able to contribute to community development through technology-based innovation," she said.
The Chairman of the Royal Teladan Asahan Education Foundation, Mr. Dhani Alhamidi Lubis, S.Ab., M.M, also expressed his appreciation for the implementation of this seminar. In his speech, he stated that technologies such as AI and IoT are not just trends, but urgent needs to support sustainable development. Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, Dr. William Ramdhan, M.Kom, also gave a motivating introduction. He highlighted the importance of practical provision for students, especially in the era of industry 4.0, where the integration of AI and IoT has become an inseparable part of various sectors of life, including transportation, health, education, and public services.
As the main speaker, Prof. Zainal Arifin Hasibuan explained the latest developments in AI and IoT technology, starting from its application in increasing the efficiency of city resource management to its role in creating a safer and more comfortable environment for the community.
“AI and IoT are key to creating cities that are able to respond to the needs of their citizens intelligently and efficiently. However, the challenge is how we ensure that this technology can be implemented while considering environmental sustainability and community support,” explained Prof. Zainal.
In addition to the presentation of the material, this seminar also presented an interactive discussion session that gave students the opportunity to have a direct dialogue with Prof. Zainal. Various questions were asked, ranging from the potential for implementing AI and IoT in Indonesia, especially in small cities like Kisaran, to ethical challenges that may arise in its use.
