The development of IT in Indonesia has driven Mr. Anda Putra Lubis to participate in the advancement of IT-based education by establishing Royal Course Center in 1995 in Kisaran, Asahan Regency, North Sumatra Province. The Royal Computer Course started with simple facilities, consisting of 8 computer units. This institution was supported by experienced instructors, who were practitioners at a large plantation company in Kisaran, which attracted many students to develop their IT skills. Within 5 years, the number of students reached hundreds after collaborating with secondary schools in the Asahan region and surrounding areas.
In 2003, the Royal Academy of Information Management and Computer Science was founded, more commonly known as AMIK Royal. AMIK Royal was established with two study programs: Information Management (IM) and Computer Engineering (CE). AMIK Royal produced graduates with a Diploma 3 (D-3) in Computer Science to meet the public's need for higher education in the field of computers. The institution's development was quite rapid, with the number of students reaching around 42 in its first year and about 300 students by the third year. AMIK Royal continued to improve its management and facilities to enhance the quality of its graduates, which was proven by the fact that within the next 3 years, the student population grew to over 1,000. AMIK Royal alumni were accepted into various government agencies, private companies, and other organizations across Indonesia, particularly in North Sumatra.
The Royal College of Information Management and Computer Science Kisaran, abbreviated as STMIK Royal Kisaran, was established on September 8, 2011. The founding date of STMIK Royal Kisaran refers to the date of establishment permission issued by the Minister of National Education, through the Director General of Higher Education, signed by Djoko Santoso with Decree No. 197/E/O/2011, dated September 8, 2011.
STMIK Royal was founded in September 2011 and was preceded by AMIK Royal in September 2003 (however, AMIK Royal merged with STMIK Royal in early 2019). In its development, both AMIK and STMIK Royal have been accredited with a grade B in all study programs, and in December 2018, STMIK Royal received accreditation B for its institution.
The opportunity to achieve accreditation B marked the starting point for us to begin cooperation with larger universities and institutions, particularly in the fields of information technology or related computer fields, both domestically and internationally, to help improve the quality of Royal Campus, particularly in terms of the quality of lecturers as the main human resource in the campus operations.
**Transformation into Universitas Royal**
On May 28, 2024, Universitas Royal was officially recognized with the issuance of a decree from the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) No. 386/E/O/2024 from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. This transformation marks a significant step forward in the institution's history, solidifying its commitment to continue contributing to the world of education, especially in the field of information technology. With its new status as a university, Royal now has greater capacity and responsibility to produce graduates who are ready to compete in the global era.
